Docspace Curated Programmes & Metacinema
bringing documentaries to new audiences

Docspace is committed to bringing documentaries to new audiences. We work with a variety of venues: traditional cinemas, arts and media centres, film societies and schools. Our new mobile digital cinema system means that screenings can take place in virtually any environment - indoors or outdoors.

Curated seasons have included four seasons of features and shorts for cinemas: Nobel Peace Season, "its time we roused ourselves and made a difference" (Richard Holloway) which marked the launch of the Nobel Peace Institute in Oslo, Norway.

Twenty-To-One - Films for a Greener Future (July 2005)
A season of documentaries to coincide with the G8 summit in Scotland '05

Metacinema has been introduced with four curated programmes in 2006 and 2007. Metacinema allows an audience to engage with a curated programme of documentaries and explore their relevance in their own lives. Using tools from process work and other disciplines, facilitators build on the concepts and visceral experience of the documentaries to allow audiences to explore their personal response. These have included:

- Cinema and Spirituality
- Cinema and Celtic traditions
- Cinema and Peace-building
- Cinema and Shamanism

Screening work by film-makers as diverse as Marcus Coates (contemporary artist) and Peter Davies (seminal documentarian), these curated programmes have been structured to allow in-depth audience response. The response has been overwhelmingly positive:

"What happens is that the films open up a meditative space and you can see yourself, and feel your connection to the world. The images from science were astounding."

"I loved the choice of films. I got a lot of ideas. Working in the front line of commercial interests vs indigenous rights as I do, I need the energy, the tools, and the history that this workshop offered."
