Throughout July at Filmhouse Edinburgh and Glasgow
Film Theatre, Docspace presents a season of documentary feature films
which takes this year's G8 summit and its environmental theme
as its focus. Chosen from a wide selection of documentaries from around
the world, the programme of award-winning features and shorts includes
three exclusive European premieres.
Filmmakers currently confirmed to attend for Q&As include Franny
Armstrong director of McLibel, along with the "star" of her
film and the woman who fought McDonalds all the way to the European
Court of Human Rights, Helen Steel and from the US, two filmmaker/journalists
and social commentators, Brandon Jourdan and Ali Tonak
with Miami Model.

POPaganda: The Art and Crimes of Ron English (15)
European Premiere US 2004, 78 mins Dir. Pedro Carvajal
"Culture slamming" is an international agitprop movement of artists
who paint over billboards and create other art that takes aim at the
emptiness of modern culture. Shot entirely guerilla style, this exceptional
film follows leading "slammer" Ron English and was filmed by former
"slammer" Pedro Carvajal.

Ever wondered what happens to your footwear after you're
finished with it? Filmed over a two year period, this award-winning
and startlingly original film takes an ingenious look at the lifecycle
of the flip-flop.

McLibel: Two Worlds Collide (U)
UK 2005 90 mins Dir Franny Armstrong
The story of two ordinary people who humiliated McDonald's in the biggest
corporate PR disaster in history. Filmed over several years by renowned
no-budget director Franny Armstrong, McLibel is not about hamburgers.
Instead it highlights the importance of freedom of speech and the David
and Goliath story of two people who refused to say sorry. Director Franny
Armstrong and the "star" of the film, Helen Steel will be
at GFT on 5th July and Filmhouse on 7th July for a Q&A after
the screenings.
SCREENING WITH THE CHRISTIAN AID SHORT FILM:
Life Interrupted (U) 2004
15 minutes Award-winning photographer Don McCullin returns to
southern Africa to document the impact of anti-retroviral treatment
on the lives of people living with HIV.

The Miami Model (15)
European Premiere US 2004 91 mins (18) indymedia
production by the FTAA Miami Video Working Group
Follows the thousands of activists who gathered in Miami in 2003 to
protest against the Free Trade Association of America. The peaceful
crowd was brutally attacked by police using rubber bullets, pepper spray,
electric guns and shock batons. An unforgettable 'demonstration' of
police repression and media propaganda, featuring footage shot by more
than 50 indymedia video activists.
Filmmakers Brandon Jourdan and Ali Tonak
will be at GFT on 7th and 12th July and Filmhouse on 6th and 11th July
for a Q&A after the screenings.
